Silvana Cojocarasu (b. in Mangalia, Romania,) is a writer, translator, theatre critic, cultural journalist. Member of the Union of the Professional Journalists from Romania.

She graduated Romanic languages (French, Italian, Latin) to the University of Luxembourg (1995) and Letters to the University of Constantza, Romania (1996). She holds two Masters, in Image and International Relations, to the National School of Administration and Political Sciences in Bucharest (2006). In 2012 she attended an international training course in culture and heritage in Paris, to E.N.A. (École Nationale d'Administration).

Early Life

She was born in one of the oldest families from Mangalia, among the founders of the city after the Independence War and the annexation of Dobruja to the Kingdom of Romania, the official "settlement" of the great-grandfather's family (coming from Northern Greece) dating back to 1889. Friend of the historian Nicolae Iorga, with whom he often went hunting, the great-grandfather remains one of the most picturesque figures of the interwar Mangalia, often evoked in writings of reference, remembered as "the one taking care of the city lights". The family suffered the repercussions of the war and of the communist regime.

She grew-up and attended the high-school in her hometown, to which she still remains deeply connected and who became a subject of scientific studies ("Pontic Studies" in 27 episodes) and memoirs. "... as hard as I try to explain my fascination for everything that means the ancient world, the past, with all its values, the old city, the people of my great-grandparents' age, their life stories and the way of existence since then, I can not find a complete and sufficient explanation, but I certainly know that the stories about "the past" shaped my character and definitely outlined my personality and the way of my life", confesses the writer. "The closest to my soul are the three crosses made by my great-grandfather for the town's church, which still can be seen from every part of the city, especially from the sea."

Cultural activity and career

Her debut in poetry was within the literary cercles from Constantza University, under the coordination of the literary critic Marin Mincu. In the last year of faculty, she has been awarded with a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. During her studies in Luxembourg, she collaborated in drafting the cultural journal edited by the Luxembourg Society of General and Comparative Literature: "Revue luxembourgeoise de littérature générale et comparée", and she was also proposed in the research team coordinated by Michel Autrand - Sorbonne University (Paris IV), with a subject concerning the dramatic language in Albert Camus' theatre. She was part of the Madrigal Choir of the Duchy, holding concerts in Vianden, Luxembourg and Brussels. She graduated in 1995, with a degree in Literature and Human Sciences, after supporting several dissertations: "René Char au-delà de la parole", "La nature et l'amour - thèmes permanents dans la création d'Eminescu et des romantiques "," I traslati nel linguagio colloquiale ","Moravia: la coscienza o la guerra", „La maschera, un carattere". In 1996 he sustained her degree at the University of Constantza, with a subject that gave rise to a great interest: "La recherche du moi et du monde dans le théâtre de Pirandello et Ionesco".

In 2008 she was a member of the International Jury of the contest "Who goes on scene?", organized in Spoleto, Italy, for the selection of a short-film script; the contest, opened to individual and group, focused on the integration of ethnic minorities, tolerance, pluralism; the winner- "Savino's Island" by Giacomo del Buono, Gaia Mustacchio and Stefano Centini, was presented at Bianco Film Festival in Perugia.

Since 2011, she became a contributor-correspondent for Romania of the Canadian publication "Alternativa".
